About Carmichael
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) with over 25 years of experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, and leadership across residential, outpatient, and integrated care settings. I’ve worked as a clinician, clinical supervisor, executive director, educator, and policy advocate—roles that have shaped my belief that healing is possible, that people are resilient, and that systems must evolve to support both.

As a therapist, I work with adults navigating trauma, stress, grief, parenting challenges, family conflict, identity development, and relationships. Additionally, I often work with clients facing anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence (including autism and ADHD), and identity questions. I offer individual and family therapy with an emphasis on connection, accountability, and reclaiming personal agency.

I enjoy working with people who feel stuck in their relationships—whether they’re trying to repair them, redefine them, or let them go with care. I also support individuals and couples trying to co-parent more effectively, navigate difficult parenting seasons, or make sense of their next chapter—even when that chapter involves decoupling with compassion and clarity.

In therapy, I bring a non-judgmental presence, direct feedback, and a strong belief that people don’t need to be “fixed”—they need space to be heard, supported, and challenged with respect. I offer a space where all identities and family constellations are respected and supported.

I’m knowledgable about working with people who have experienced systemic harm—whether through poverty, discrimination, institutional betrayal, or cycles of marginalization. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative, and I believe that growth happens in the context of relationships where people feel seen and heard.

My clinical work is grounded in systems theory, Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT), cognitive-behavioral frameworks, developmental models, and attachment theory. I strive to understand not just the individual in front of me, but the context they live within—including the cultural, generational, and relational dynamics that shape experience. Therapy with me is always personalized and purposeful, and I approach it with curiosity, humor, and a deep respect for your lived expertise.

Outside of the therapy room, I’ve taught at colleges across Minnesota, led behavioral health organizations, and served on state boards focused on ethical practice, equitable care, and workforce development. I care deeply about the sustainability of this field and the well-being of those working in it.

I accept most major insurance plans. Therapy is available via telehealth. I currently see adult individuals and families.
